Strata by Jan Millard, from Athens, WV
Drawn to the simple elegance and subtle beauty of close up and macro botanical photography, I prefer the use of natural light in my images. I am interested in the way light informs and enhances color, shape, form and texture. In this piece, I was fascinated by the layer upon layer of beautiful saffron-yellow Ginkgo leaves. Unlike most trees, the Ginkgo sheds its leaves all at one time, enabling the adroit photographer to capture a fleeting moment of seamless complexity.
